Barbara Usey

Acrylic & Mixed Media

I was born in Warsaw, Poland. In elementary school I was taking art classes, first doing pencil drawing, next watercolors. Eventually, I took art classes in the biggest cultural building in Warsaw called Palac Kultury /Palace of Cultural Education and was able to display my art at schools in Warsaw. Art has always been one of my passions. While raising my children, I attended Warsaw University and received a Master’s degree in Economic Sciences.

In 1984, I left Poland and moved to the U.S. as a political refugee. In the states I met my husband, Jim, who was also an artist. Knowing my passion for art, he encouraged me and introduced me to a style of art known as Collage and Photo Montage. He helped me to develop a strong, heartfelt connection with that unique style of art.

About 4 years ago, I began to paint in Acrylic, which I now love. I have tried to master the medium by studying with teachers like Jan Marquez, Ed Klein, and Jan Schaeffer. I have been a member of City Light Gallery in Henderson, NV for about 4 years and Boulder City Guild for about 2 years. During this time, I participated in the juried fine art shows where I was awarded with first, second, and third place ribbons in mixed media, and four honorable mention ribbons in acrylic.

In 2016, I moved to Gilbert, AZ and became a member of Art Intersection in downtown Gilbert.

I hope by sharing my biography with you, you will get to know me better as well as enjoy my artwork, too.
